Amazon sorting center to open in Nashville

Amazon will open a new sorting center in Nashville, a move that is expected to create 100 jobs.

The online retailer is leasing a 214,000-square-foot warehouse at 50 Airways Blvd. near the airport and investing $3.25 in renovations and upgrades.

Amazon employs more than 2,000 workers in the Nashville area and 5,000 statewide. It has two large fulfillment centers in Murfreesboro and Lebanon.

Based in Seattle, the online retailer has eight sorting centers nationwide where packages are sorted by final destination and consolidated onto trucks to speed up shipping times.

Amazon has not announced when the new facility will be open.
